Berliner Wasserbetriebe is a public institution under the law of the State of Berlin (Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts des Landes Berlin). We are committed to making our websites and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the Berlin Act on Accessible Information and Communication Technology (Gesetz über die barrierefreie Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik Berlin, BIKTG Bln). This Act implements Directive (EU) 2016/2102 in the law of the State of Berlin. Under Section 3 (3) BIKTG Bln, the technical requirements follow from the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung, BITV 2.0) as amended, which is based on the European standard EN 301 549, version V3.2.1.
This accessibility statement applies to the website https://languages.bwb.de, including its English, Arabic, Polish, Russian and Turkish language versions.
This statement does not cover:
the German-language website https://www.bwb.de, which the language selector links to. A separate accessibility statement applies to that site.
the customer and service portals reached from this site, which are operated as separate applications and have their own accessibility statements.
the other online services of Berliner Wasserbetriebe.
This website is partially compliant with the requirements of BITV 2.0 because of the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons.
Links to German-language content are not marked as such
What is affected: Some links lead from this website to the German-language website of Berliner Wasserbetriebe — among them the login for our service portals and, until now, the link to this accessibility statement. These links do not indicate that they lead to a different website and to content in German.
Who is affected: All users of this website who do not read German, and in particular people using screen reading software, for whom an unannounced change of language is especially disorienting.
Requirement not met: EN 301 549 V3.2.1, requirement 9.3.1.2 "Language of Parts".
Accessible alternative: The information most frequently needed is available in all five languages on this website. Where you need something that exists only in German, please contact us and we will provide the information in one of the languages of this site.
Planned remedy: Following the switch to a different system for creating the website, we will be able to eliminate this technical limitation. This is scheduled for 2027.
German Sign Language and Easy-to-Read German
What is missing: Section 4 BITV 2.0, together with Annex 2, requires public bodies to provide explanations in German Sign Language (Deutsche Gebärdensprache) and in Easy-to-Read German (Leichte Sprache). These are German-language services. This website exists specifically to provide information to people who do not read German, and it holds no German-language content of its own.
Requirement not met: Section 4 BITV 2.0 in conjunction with Annex 2 BITV 2.0, applicable under Section 4 (6) BIKTG Bln.
Accessible alternative: Berliner Wasserbetriebe provides these services on its German-language website. You can find them here:
